This private half-day guided township tour by air-conditioned minivan explores three Port Elizabeth-area townships. Your driver/guide will explain the region's social history, including the country's apartheid past and great successes of the present.

This private four-hour township tour begins with a pickup from your central Port Elizabeth or beachfront accommodation around 1:30pm.

You'll be driven by air-conditioned minivan to New Brighton, a township established in 1903, and one of the first officially black residential areas in Port Elizabeth. From there you'll visit the townships of Kwazakhele and Zwide south of the city. Throughout the tour, you'll meet talented artists at work, visit a community-run school, and learn about township life. The tour also includes a stop at the Donkin Reserve, which features historical walking trails, monuments to the region's first British settlers, and a lighthouse.

The tour concludes around 5:30pm, when you'll be returned to your overnight accommodation. All entrance fees are included in the price of the tour. Note that two people per booking are required and infant seats are available with advance request.

The Sundays River Valley Route/Addo region is only an hour's scenic drive from the wonderful beaches of the Sunshine Coast and the rich 1820 Settler history of Grahamstown. Addo Elephant National Park is the place to see the famous Addo elephants as well as mile after mile of verdant citrus trees, bearing fruit all winter and filling the air with the wonderful scent of their blossoms in springtime. Today this finely tuned ecosystem is sanctuary to over 420 elephants, 450 Cape buffalo, black rhino, a variety of antelope species, as well as the unique flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo. Enjoy a drive through this park. Stop for lunch (not included) at a picnic area inside the park overlooking a waterhole.

Explore the Garden Route and its abundant attractions in just four days. Experience the highlights of the Garden Route, traveling from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town in this four day tour. Visit Tsitsikamma Park en route to the quaint holiday town of Knysna. Enjoy the bright greens and blues of the forests and lagoons and the evocative landscapes of the Klein Karoo and Oudtshoorn.

Day 1: Port Elizabeth to Knysna. (D)
Head westwards along the Garden Route, which follows the Indian Ocean coastline and is bordered inland by soaring mountain ranges and indigenous forests. Visit Tsitsikamma Park and Storms River Mouth. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure at the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Knysna.

Day 2: Knysna (B, L)
Enjoy the shops and atmosphere of this quaint town before joining a lagoon cruise to Featherbed Nature Reserve. Enjoy a trailer ride to top of Western Head and walk back through Milkwood trees for lunch. Overnight in Knysna.

Day 3: Knysna to Oudtshoorn (B)
Travel through the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn, the centre of the world’s Ostrich farming industry. You’ll visit an Ostrich Farm for a guided tour and light lunch, before taking a tour of the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. Late afternoon you will travel to your hotel in time to check in and relax before dinner (for own account). Overnight in Oudtshoorn.

Day 4: Oudtshoorn to Franschhoek to Cape Town (B)
Enjoy an early morning meerkat safari (optional & for own account). Witness these incredible wild, habituated creatures emerging out of their burrows, in time to soak up the sun before they head about their daily activities (weather permitting). After this thrilling experience, head back for a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, the journey continues through the "Little Karoo" to Barrydale, where you will have the opportunity to visit a local farm school before travelling to Montagu, a picturesque and historic spa town. (The school visit is subject to the school being open.) Continue to Franschhoek, a picturesque village surrounded by spectacular vineyards, where French Huguenots settled more than 300 years ago. Here you will disembark the tour and be transferred (with a driver only) to Cape Town, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain. The journey ends on arrival in Cape Town. [B] Note for 2019 season: The tour will continue straight through to Cape Town, and may only travel via Franschhoek to collect other guests booked on the Franschhoek Winelands Option from the SJC14 South Africa Odyssey Tour.
