Enjoy this spectacular 1.5-hour sightseeing cruise, that takes you across the Knysna Lagoon and out to sea through the Knysna Heads to explore the coves, caves and bays of our rugged and beautiful coastline. With your local, professional guide, experience the highlights from the geological characteristics and the biodiversity of Knysna’s estuarine and marine environment. Get a chance to often see marine life in your shared group, with no more than 25 people. Choose from one of three departure times when you book.

Depart from the Thesen Island harbor town, right in the center of Knysna, at your selected time. Check in at reception to meet your guide, and get prepared for the trip. The vessels are boarded by means of a walk-on Jetty, and boats depart and make their way across the Knysna estuary in the direction of the Knysna Heads, which is the opening out to sea. Once out at sea the skipper heads along the coastline towards Brenton, on sea and Buffalo Bay, highlighting the incredible coastline, needle caves and shoreline.
Depending on the conditions the trip heads along the stretch of coastline or will head out to sea, various indicators such as diving birds and other disturbances on the ocean are signs of possible marine life such as, pods of dolphins, or whales. This means that there is no set course or direction that the trip takes and is determined by the skipper and the conditions on the day.
Return back to Thesen Island approximately 1.5-hours after your selected time.

What will you see on your trip?

Apart from the incredibly beautiful coastline you may see the following:

The Knysna coastline’s year-round resident whales are the Bryde’s and Minke whales, which are spotted throughout the year, and then of course the "Rock star’s" migrating Southern Right and Humpback whales, which season spans from April through till December. The shy and endangered Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphin, Bottle-nose and Common dolphins, Cape Fur seals, sharks, a variety of beautiful pelagic bird species and much more!

Beginner tips
If this is your first Stand-Up Paddle experience, stay in the protected waters of Thesen Island. The water is calmer and boats travel at wake speed.

Keep hydrated
Don’t get dehydrated! When on the water it is recommended that you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

What to wear!
Dress comfortably in a costume or shorts & a t-shirt. During the cooler winter months, you may want to bring a wet suite.

Don’t forget the sunblock and sunglasses!
Water reflects and magnifies the sun rays. Without protection you can get severely sunburned during your trip. Be sure to bring your sunglasses to protect your eyes from glare on the water.
