In South Africa, we are privileged to have access to great white sharks … if you know where to go, and when. Shark Cage Diving and viewing is a unique and niche experience. Exceptional professional and personalised service coupled with extensive industry knowledge make this the ideal choice for an once-in-a-lifetime experience that will captivate your imagination!

The main focus of your tour is a natural interaction with the sharks and every effort is made to treat these animals with the respect they deserve.

Guests are welcomed from 6.30 am with a healthy continental breakfast and a full safety and weather briefing is given before departure.
Departing at 7.30am, you'll embark on a 15-25 minute boar tide. Here the skipper of the day gives a short lecture on the Great White Shark. He explains how you'll work with the sharks in the area. We spend 2 to 4 hours at sea, depending on how often the sharks visit the boat. Be sure to ask as many questions as you can think up!

Diving and viewing your cage takes 5 people at a time. Each person spends about 20 minutes in the cage. All diving equipment, including 7mm wetsuits, is provided – you don’t need any experience

Picnic lunch on board our lunch boxes are packed with bread rolls (with a variety of fillings), sweets, crisps and assorted juices and soft drinks.

Afternoon tea on your return to dry land (around 11am), you're invited to join the crew for some home-made vegetable soup.

Jump on board for a spectacular 2-hour whale watching experience along the cliffs of De Keldar. Watch Southern right whales and other marine life as they swim amongst you. Enjoy the experience in full, as the boat is never overcrowded for the best experience.

Launch from the quaint fishing harbour of Gansbaai and travel along the cliffs of De Keldar’s. There, you will find a nature reserve that has been proven to hold the highest concentration of whales in South Africa. The shallow waters allow the whales to mate and protect their calves.

The whales you can expect to see are known as Southern right whales. Similar to the North Atlantic and North Pacific right whales, they are considered different due to the shape of their skulls. Along the way, keep a look out for dolphins, caper fur seals, and sharks. You may also witness humpback, Minke, and Bryde's whales frolicking in the ocean. Finally, catch a glimpse at beautiful Orcas, False killer whales, and the African penguin.

Return back to the harbour at the end of your boating adventure.

Join the team for what will undoubtedly be a memorable 2 hour Big 5 Sea Safari. The goal is to target Walker Bays Big 5, Whales, Dolphin, Seals, Penguin and Marine Birds.

You depart from the harbour of Gansbaai and cruise along the scenic route passing the cliffs of De Kelders and De Platt Beach. Observe the stunning coast line, contrasting white beach's with the blue skies and chameleon waters that stretch for miles from Gansbaai to Hermanus, you then set course and head out into the middle of the bay in search of the Big 5.

Bottlenose Dolphin are often seen on these trips and if you are lucky enough to encounter a school this is the time to grab the zoom lens as Dolphins love to entertain and it’s a photographer’s paradise.

On your return to Gansbaai harbour you'll pay more attention to Danger point, this is often where you'll find the resident Bryde's whales of the area.Bryde’s whales are hunters and feed on wide variety of fish, mackerel is common to the waters as well as planktonic, crustaceans, and cephalopods. Bryde's whales have an upright, falcate dorsal fin that is up to 46.25 cm (18.21 in) in height, averages 34.4 cm (13.5 in), and is usually between 30 and 37.5 cm (11.8 and 14.8 in). It is often frayed or ragged along its rear margin and located about two-thirds of the way along the back.

On your journey your crew will educate you on all aspects of marine life, with a qualifying Marine Biologist and a Skipper with over 15 years experience there is a wealth of knowledge for you to tap.

Finally you must not forget the past, Danger Point is also famous as this is where the British iron paddle-wheel frigate HMS Birkenhead, weighing 1400 tons, was tragically lost.  This stretch of water has earned its reputation by default, this Big 5 Sea Safari is dependent on the water conditions at danger point, if the water conditions for this area will not deliver a memorable experience your trip may be switch to a Walker Bay Big 5 Safari as we must respect this stretch of water.

Big 5 Sunset Sea Safari – Cheese & Wine Trip

** All the above with complimentary cheese and wine **

Admire the beautiful coastline, spot the local Oceans big 5 while you sit back and sample a selection of locally produced fine cheese and wine.

Enjoy sampling a platter of cheese produced by the Klein River cheese factory. The factory can be found nestled on the banks of the Klein River, surrounded by lush green hills and mountains. They use Jersey and Ayrshire milk collected from 2 neighbouring farms to produce a selection of 13 types of cheese.

Taste a selection of wine from the Raka wine estate. The Raka brand was named after Piet Dreyer's black fishing vessel. Piet's first love has always been the sea. For some 36 years he braved the storms and challenges of the coast, ever in search of the best catch. It is with the same passion that the Dreyer family now pursue the art of wine making.

Our company is one of only eight shark licensed cage diving operators in Gansbaai, the only place in the world where you can encounter great white sharks all year round.

The trip starts between 6 am and 12 pm in the morning from Kleinbaai harbour, which is a 2 km drive from the village of Gansbaai, but may vary due to the tides and expedited sea conditions. You will be personally notified, after 5 pm the day before your dive, about the time you must meet at our crew house in Kleinbaai. We will use the contact number you supply when making your booking.

After a continental breakfast (no greasy foods), a safety briefing is held and then you board the shark-chaser, Apex Predator for the 5-mile voyage to Dyer Island or an anchor spot where we have observed recent white shark activity.

When the boat leaves the harbour, the round trip usually takes 3 to 4 hours. After dropping anchor, the crew will begin attracting Great Whites Sharks with a specially- formulated ‘Chum’ mixture. With the exception of the recent ocra activity, we have seen white sharks on 99% of our trips.

(MANDATE AGAINST THE USE OF SHARK PRODUCTS - The local supplier do not feed the sharks nor use any part of a shark product in their ‘secret chum mixture’ and have signed a mandate to this effect.)

Once the Great White Sharks arrive, you will have the opportunity to photograph these majestic apex-predators feeding at the surface, right alongside the boat. This is when you get the opportunity to enter the cage!

Passengers are exposed to the open sea while travelling to Shark Alley where the boat will be anchored and chumming commence. The boat is protected with vinyl side curtains to give additional protection from the wind and water spray.

Enjoy a shark cage diving trip in Gansbaai with highly trained personal and state of the art, large and very stable catamaran sporting a super-strong unbreakable steel shark cage.

Shark cage diving from Kleinbaai harbour. The largest concentration of Great White Sharks on earth. See sharks all year around. Climb into a impenetrable floating cage and feel the adrenaline pump through your veins as a shark swims towards you, opens its mouth and bares its big sharp teeth.

Not brave enough to plunge into the shark diving cage for a little adventure with the great whites? This is not at all a problem. Non-divers enjoy viewing great white sharks from our boat without diving. You get an amazingly clear view of these magnificent predators while viewing from the boat. They look literally like submarines gliding past. Great white sharks are surface feeders and our shark handlers are trained to bring them up-close-and-personal against the side of the boat. Their heads and jaws are clearly visible.

The bay also plays host to large numbers of whales between June – November. The whale numbers often match even those of the famous territory of Hermanus. While on the subject of Marine mammals… schools of up to 500 dolphins make a spectacular site and are often seen in the bay. All of this makes shark diving in Gansbaai, a unique and sought after experience.
